COACH EDUCATION

COACH EDUCATION HANDBOOK 2008
This handbook has been written for clubs or other organisations who wish to host GymSports New Zealand Coach Education Courses. Click HERE to download the booklet.

COURSE ORGANISATION/GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION

Most courses are set at the beginning of the year, however additional courses will be added in during the year as the need for them arises so please continue check the calendar for updates. 

Organisation for courses already in the education calendar: 

Approximately 10 weeks prior to a course a club will be approached to hold the course (or a club may approach GSNZ to host the course).  Once the host club has been confirmed the registration forms will be put on the website with a closing date 2 weeks prior to the course.  All payments for courses will be sent to the host club.  GymSports New Zealand will organise presenters and all resources for each course.

Organisiation for courses that clubs would like to request:

Clubs/regions that wish to host an education course need to apply to GymSports New Zealand on the Course Request Form at least 10 weeks prior to the proposed date of the course. Courses are usually requested in response to an identified need. Once approved advertising can be sent out/put on the website. PLease contact your local GymSports Officer for a request form.

Information

Clubs/regions are able to create an income for themselves subject to the number of attendees.

GymSports New Zealand is responsible for all presenter costs and course materials. The hosts are responsible for the presenters lunch, venue hire and morning and afternoon tea.

Course costs are based on 12 participants, additional charges apply for numbers in excess of 12.

ONLINE EDUCATION MODULES

As part of the education framework coaches are required to complete a number of theoretical modules and practical coaching evaluations to gain accreditation. The modules attached can be downloaded and completed as part of this accreditation process or as part of a coaches professional development.  Under the Education heading please refer to the Online Modules tab. 

ANNUAL SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 
Coaches are also required to submit their practical coaching hours on an annual basis. Requirements are listed below:

Introductory  No requirement
Recreation Coach  40 hours per annum to complete
Club Coach  80 hours per annum to complete
Senior Coach160 hours per annum to complete


To maintain accreditation coaches are required to attend and record updating courses over a two-year period.

FIRST AID
All coaches need to have an upto date First Aid qualification incorporating NZQA approved courses 6401 and 6402; Basic First Aid and Life Support.
